  • donald Trump asserted that his supporters acted peacefully on January 6, 2021, despite the extensive evidence of violence.
  • Trump warned that he would likely face impeachment if Republicans lose control of the House of Representatives.

  • A former supporter, Jake Angeli, is now running for governor of Arizona as an independent, accusing Trump of betrayal.

Speaking before Republican deputies at the Kennedy Center – recently renamed the Trump-Kennedy Center, according to reports – Trump addressed the fifth anniversary of the Capitol assault by hundreds of his supporters. He acknowledged the Republican party is likely to lose seats in the upcoming midterm elections, noting the House majority has been reduced to 218 seats against 213 Democrats following the death of Californian Doug LaMalfa and the absence of Wisconsin representative Jim Baird due to a car accident.

“The media did not write that my fans marched peacefully and patriotically on the Capitol,” Trump said, according to reports. He also stated, “If we don’t win the midterm elections, I will be impeached.”

Trump downplayed his obligation for the riot, arguing that when he spoke of stolen elections in November 2020,he called for a march to Capitol Hill but did not advocate for violence.

Democrats criticized the rewriting of history during a commemorative event Tuesday, with New York Congressman Hakeem Jeffries pointing out the violence that resulted in injuries to 140 police officers. They now await the outcome of the midterm elections, while also considering how a defeat might be received by the current White House occupant, whose approval rating has fallen below 40%.

Pardons and Dissension
