Memorandum of Understanding

Maruti Suzuki, which is successfully manufacturing electric cars, is now going to manufacture vehicles that can run on Bio Gas obtained from cow dung.

India’s largest carmaker Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) has announced that it will use cow dung to run its CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) cars on biogas. For this, it has signed an MoU with Asia’s largest dairy company, National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).

Memorandum of Understanding

About 70 percent of the CNG vehicles in the Indian market are owned by Suzuki. As a result, the company has launched a plan to use biogas for CNG models.

It is planning to set up a bio gas plant from cow dung in Banaskantha, Gujarat. The plant can produce up to 1,500 kg of biogas to supply 500 CNG cars per day.

Commenting on the deal, Suzuki said, “We expect the Indian market to grow in FY 2030. Meanwhile, our car products emit less carbon from biogas produced from cow dung than from other gases. Therefore, we are working on producing biogas from cow dung as a unique initiative.

Also biogas production from cow dung available in rural areas of India promotes rural economic development. If this project of Maruti Suzuki is successful, it will expand to Africa, Asia and Japan,” it said.

It is said that the cow dung from ten cows is enough to run this new vehicle manufactured by Maruti Suzuki for a whole day. This has caused happiness among the farmers. As biogas powered vehicles come into use, the demand for cow dung in the country will increase. This will increase the income of the farmers. Vehicle fuel is available at cheaper prices than petrol and diesel. They claim that it will not harm the environment to a large extent.
