Carles Puigdemont, Junts per Cat candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat, closes the door to the PSC regarding any possible agreement after the Catalan elections on May 12. In addition, he has asked ERC to clarify whether he will make Salvador Illa, a socialist candidate, president.
The former president has warned, in a press conference organized by the Catalan news agency (ACN) in Argelès-sur-Mer (France), that a presidency of the Generalitat in which the PSC governs with the votes of the PP “is incompatible “with the support of Junts to the Government of Pedro Sánchez. With these words Puigdemont responds to Illa’s statements where he was in favor of leading a “transversal” government, as well as speaking with Junts per Cat.
Likewise, the Junts candidate has assured that if there is a repeat election it would be “bad news for citizens and democracy”, but that he would be his party’s candidate again, and that he would campaign in person in Catalonia —unlike how he is doing it now— to be “on equal terms” with the rest of the presidential candidates.
In this press conference he also reiterated his intention to be sworn in as president in a second round, despite the fact that there is no pro-independence majority, and that he would not negotiate with the Catalan socialist party for his possible abstention: “They will know what they have to do.” .

In the event that Illa wins the presidency thanks to the PP, Puigdemont affirms that maintaining the negotiation table in Switzerland would make “little sense” and that “it would be wasting time to go to negotiate with a party that in Catalonia governs with the party that most has harmed Catalonia”.
