Unexpected Arrival: French Hairdresser Travels to Le Creusot for Early Birth

A heartwarming story of maternal instinct and trust in healthcare unfolded earlier this month as a French woman unexpectedly delivered her first child at the Hôtel-Dieu du Creusot, choosing the facility despite being based in the Var department and initially planning a birth closer to home. The early arrival of baby Valentin has become a testament to the renowned reputation of the Creusot maternity hospital.

A Journey Driven by Trust

The mother, a hairdresser working at the “Mon Paris” salon in Draguignan, Var, had been anticipating the arrival of her child in the Var region, where her partner, Alexandre Carmagnolle, works in viticulture. However, little Valentin decided to make his entrance three weeks ahead of schedule. While visiting her parents in Dennevy, in the Dheune valley, she opted to travel to Le Creusot for the delivery, foregoing options in nearby cities like Beaune or Chalon sur Saône.

Positive Experience at Hôtel-Dieu

The unexpected change of plans proved to be a positive experience. “I was very well received, here at Le Creusot it’s a great team, everyone is very nice,” she shared, expressing her gratitude for the care she received. The delivery, despite being rushed, went smoothly, and Valentin entered the world on Friday, January 9th, at 6:08 p.m., weighing in at 2,600 kilograms.

Homecoming to the Var

By the end of January, Valentin will embark on his first significant journey – a nearly 530-kilometer trip back to the family home in Vidauban, Var. The six-hour drive will require several stops, but the promise of sunshine and the scent of mimosa awaits them. This journey signifies not only a return to their roots but also the beginning of a new chapter for the young family.

The story highlights the importance of accessible and trusted healthcare options, demonstrating how a mother’s intuition and a hospital’s strong reputation can converge to ensure a safe and positive birth experience.
