Dan Haase’s “case Road” Captures Nostalgia and Hometown Roots as Makin Waves Song of the Week
As New Jersey prepares for a vibrant November of arts and entertainment, bassist Dan Haase’s debut single, “Case Road,” has been named the Makin Waves Song of the Week. The track, a poignant tribute to his Lakewood, New Jersey upbringing, foreshadows the release of Haase’s forthcoming solo album in 2026.
Haase, a Makin Waves Award-winning musician, penned “Case road” during a period of personal reflection in October 2024 while visiting New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia. “I woke up after a night of car camping and found this stunning overlook of the Gorge. Words
just started flowing, and I realized I was writing about my childhood and the people who helped me along the way,” Haase explained.”Without those formative years, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” Haase affirmed.
The track features a reunion with those early collaborators – Jon Grill on drums, James Doyle on banjo, and Chris Colon on guitar – adding a layer of emotional resonance. “It was pretty special getting to record this song with the guys who helped make it possible so many years ago,” Haase said. The song’s title references a street in Lakewood where Grill resided, a place where the band first honed their skills. A demo sent to Grill elicited an emotional response, solidifying Haase’s decision to record the song.
Beyond “Case Road,” Haase has been diligently crafting more material, with several singles planned before the full album release.He showcases his versatility on the track,performing vocals,acoustic guitar,bass,and mandolin. Percussion is provided by Tim Panella,who also co-produced and engineered the song at Ghosthaus Studios,building on his experience at Lakehouse Recording Studios in Asbury Park.
Listeners can hear “Case Road” between 6 and 8 p.m.on November 7 on “Radio Jersey” at ThePenguinRocks.com, with archives available on The Penguin, Mixcloud, and RadioJersey.net. Haase will perform a duo show with James Doyle on November 7 at Hemingway’s in seaside Heights, and regularly plays with the cover band Mushmouth.
