According to Cert-SA, the incident unfolded after an alleged robbery in the eastern parts of Pretoria. A suspect vehicle was pursued, ultimately leading to a confrontation at the Old Johannesburg Road off-ramp. “Upon arrival on scene, our crews attended to three individuals who sustained gunshot wounds following an alleged robbery and subsequent pursuit,” Cert-SA reported.
What exactly happened on the R101? A shootout reportedly broke out between armed security personnel and the occupants of the suspect vehicle. Three suspects were found wounded at the scene. Sadly, one individual succumbed to their injuries and was declared deceased. Two others were transported to a hospital in critical condition, remaining under police guard. A fourth suspect was arrested and is currently in police custody.
Multiple law enforcement agencies and private security companies responded to the scene, securing the area and initiating an investigation. Authorities have stated that the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.
This incident follows a separate event in Centurion earlier this month, where a motorist was injured in a rock-throwing incident.
