Social Security Office Expands Healthcare Facility Choices for Insured Individuals in 2026
The Social Security Office is increasing flexibility for insured persons to select medical facilities for the year 2026, offering a streamlined process through both in-person and online channels during a critical system upgrade.
Bangkok, Thailand – The Social Security Office (SSO) announced today that individuals covered under Sections 33 and 39 will have the opportunity to change their designated medical facilities between December 16, 2025, and March 31, 2026. This initiative aims to empower insured individuals to choose healthcare providers that best meet their individual needs.
According to a statement released by the SSO, the change is being implemented to “facilitate insured persons in selecting appropriate medical facilities that are consistent with their own medical care needs.” The rollout coincides with the transition to the SSO Core system, a new information service platform designed to enhance efficiency and accessibility.
Changing Facilities: A Phased Approach
The process for changing medical facilities will unfold in three distinct phases:
-
In-Person Submissions (December 16-19, 2025): During this initial period, insured individuals can submit the SSO.9-02 form directly at any Social Security Office nationwide.
-
Online Transition (December 20, 2025 – January 4, 2026): As the SSO transitions data to the new SSO Core system, all requests must be submitted through one of four electronic channels:
- NHSO website (E-self service system)
- SSO Plus application
- Line Official: @ssothai
- Government application
A senior official stated that utilizing these digital channels during this period is crucial to ensure a smooth transition. Importantly, the timing of submission during this phase directly impacts when medical treatment rights become effective. Submissions between December 20-31, 2025, will grant rights starting January 1, 2026, while those filed between January 1-4, 2026, will take effect on January 16, 2026.
-
Combined Options (January 5, 2026 onwards): Following the data transfer, insured individuals can choose to submit requests either online through the aforementioned channels or in person at Social Security Office locations in Bangkok, provincial areas, or branches.
Convenience and Accessibility Prioritized
The SSO emphasized the importance of selecting a hospital within the province where an individual works or resides to ensure convenient and efficient access to medical services. Insured individuals can consult with their employers or visit the Social Security Office website to view a comprehensive list of participating medical facilities. Additionally, the SSO’s 24-hour hotline, 1506, is available to provide information and assistance.
Notification of changes will be delivered differently depending on insurance type. Those insured under Section 33 will receive updates through their employer, while Section 39 insured individuals will be notified via SMS message to the phone number registered with the SSO. This ensures all insured persons receive “complete and timely information,” according to the SSO.
This expanded flexibility represents a significant step towards patient-centered healthcare within the Thai social security system, offering greater control and choice to insured individuals as the SSO modernizes its infrastructure.
