Herrems: – Oh my God, so crazy
The Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti reports that Milos Kos allegedly made some remarks after the game and then decided to hit goalkeeper Matej Mandic in the face.
Teammate zvonimir Srna reportedly jumped into the fray, and from there chaos ensued. The club has since issued a statement suspending both Kos and Srna for “a physical conflict initiated by Srna.”

To make matters even more special, Mandic, who is a Croatian national team player, is at risk of missing the World Cup at home, which takes place in January, due to the injuries he sustained to his face from the blow by teammate Kos.
– If that had happened to me, having to miss a tournament at home, I would be furious. That shouldn’t happen, says a seasoned national team veteran.
– Huh? No?
Herrem’s teammates Henny Reistad and Maren Aardahl are also somewhat shocked by what they hear.
– Irrespective of what one misses, it’s quite a crisis. Generally, this shouldn’t even be a topic, but I know there can be more physical frustration in a men’s locker room, the former starts.
– Huh?! No? That’s just insane. I realize I’m very curious about what was said then. It takes quite a lot to escalate to that point.
SHOCKED: Maren Aardahl could hardly believe what she heard.

Nettavisen asks herrem about what the closest incidents to this in the Norwegian locker room have been after a loss.
She bursts into laughter and responds:
– It’s far from that at least. We can sit after a game and be frustrated, but I’ve never experienced anyone blaming others. It’s more like we almost become too supportive if something like this happens.
Henny Reistad: – Absolutely catastrophic
National team captain Reistad believes that such behavior among the girls would provoke strong reactions.
– If this had happened in a women’s locker room, it would be completely catastrophic.

Time.news Editor (TNE): Good day, and welcome to our exclusive interview. Today, we’re diving into the world of handball, focusing on the recent shocking events in Croatia’s major team Zagreb. AR: Communication is critical in any team sport, especially in high-pressure situations. Effective communication can either defuse tension or, as seen in Zagreb’s case, ignite it. Athletes must have strategies in place to manage conflict and express frustrations constructively, rather than letting them boil over into confrontations.

Though, while punitive measures can serve as a deterrent, they’re frequently enough not enough. It’s essential that teams also implement educational programs on conflict resolution, emotional management, and communication skills to create a healthier team atmosphere.
TNE: Given the context of the Women’s European Championship currently taking place in Austria,Hungary, and Switzerland, how do you think incidents like this in men’s handball compare to challenges women athletes face in their respective competitions?
AR: While both men’s and women’s sports face their own unique challenges, the conversation around aggression and behavior often tends to differ. Women’s sports are frequently scrutinized more for sportsmanship and teamwork, whereas men’s sports sometimes gloss over aggressive incidents. However, both genders face pressures that can lead to conflict. Promoting mental health resources and fostering a supportive environment is essential across the board.
