Indirapuram is a posh colony in the Uttar Pradesh part of Delhi NCR. Developed by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA), the colony has not been transferred to the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation. Responsibility for water supply and sanitation remains with GDA. However, neglect has led to deteriorating conditions in certain areas.
Street vendors have illegally occupied both sides of the road, and inadequate cleaning of sewers and drains results in flooding during rains. These issues negatively impact property values.
People’s Outrage
Yesterday, residents of five residential societies in Nyay Khand-1, Indirapuram, erupted in anger over the indecisiveness of the Ghaziabad Development Authority. Protests were held against the authority and the police administration, who have been accused of ignoring repeated complaints about waterlogging, illegal occupation, encroachment, traffic congestion, and uncleaned sewers.
Affected Societies
Nyay Khand-1 in Indirapuram is home to several multi-story societies, including Gaur Green Vista, Supertech Icon, V3S, Patrakar Vihar, Media Times Apartment, and Janta Flats. Over 5,000 families reside in these societies.
Residents’ Concerns
Residents claim that government land and roadside areas are being illegally occupied, allegedly with the connivance of the police and authorities. Rakesh Pandey, general secretary of Gaur Green Vista, describes the following issues:
Illegal occupation of road space by vendors and car repair shops.
Uncleaned roads littered with garbage.
Overflows in sewers despite regular payments.
Rainwater flooding apartments on the ground floor.
* Increased anti-social elements and security risks.
Falling Property Values
Pandey believes these problems have led to declining property values in these societies. Many residents are forced to sell their flats and move to Noida due to these issues but struggle to find buyers at a fair price.
