A runner participating in the Cognac marathon in Charente died this Saturday, victim of a cardiac arrest at the finish of the 10.5 km course, reported our colleagues from Charente Libre. Around 11 a.m., this 27-year-old Cognaçaise, whose identity has not been communicated, collapsed after crossing the finish line, struck down by a devastating heart attack.

After giving her first aid, the emergency services transported her in absolute urgency to the Angoulême hospital center, where she was declared dead shortly after her arrival.

“It hit us all hard”

“It hit us all hard”, testified Maxime Dauvel, the co-president of the race in Charente Libre. A minute of silence was observed during the announcement of the marathon podium, at 3 p.m.

Created about twenty years ago, the Cognac marathon is a festive race starting from the town of Jarnac (Charente), winding through the vineyards and along the Charente river. Several routes are offered: a 10.5 km section, a half-marathon (21 km) and a marathon (42 km).
