Berkshire Health Systems Leader Named Massachusetts 2025 Community Star

A dedicated advocate for rural healthcare, Charles Redd, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer at Berkshire Health Systems (BHS), has been recognized as the Massachusetts 2025 Community Star by the National Institution of State Offices of rural Health (NOSORH). This prestigious honor acknowledges Redd’s critically important contributions to improving access to care in the frequently enough-underserved rural communities of the Berkshires.
Redd, a registered nurse, has spearheaded innovative programs at BHS focused on addressing the unique healthcare challenges faced by rural populations. His work was prominently featured on the official National Rural Health Day (NRHD) website, powerofrural.org,on November 20,alongside other Community Stars from across the nation.
Recognizing Champions of Rural Health
The Community Star recognition program, established in 2015 alongside NRHD, serves as a platform to celebrate individuals and organizations making a tangible difference in rural communities. According to a NOSORH release, the program has honored over 400 inspiring individuals nationwide since its inception.
NOSORH leads NRHD annually on the third Thursday of November, a day dedicated to honoring those who serve the health needs of the nearly 61 million Americans living in rural areas. The organization emphasizes the selfless dedication and determined spirit of those working to ensure equitable healthcare access for all.
