Charli XCX has unveiled another track from Wuthering Heights, her soundtrack and companion album to Emerald Fennell’s upcoming movie. The song, titled “Chains of Love,” is available to listen to now, ahead of the film and album’s simultaneous release on february 13.
The artist’s recent singles, “Chains of Love” and the John Cale-assisted “House,” will both be featured on the album. Charli XCX described the project, in a post on Substack, as a “dive into persona, into a world that felt undeniably raw, wild, sexual, gothic, British, tortured and full of actual real sentences, punctuation and grammar. Without a cigarette or a pair of sunglasses in sight,it was all totally other from the life I was currently living.”
What kind of sound can fans expect from Charli XCX’s Wuthering Heights album? The artist has characterized the project as a departure from her current life, embracing a raw, gothic, and intensely literary aesthetic.
Exploring a New Sonic Landscape
The album represents a deliberate shift in artistic direction for Charli XCX,moving away from familiar tropes and embracing a more visceral and character-driven approach. The description suggests a focus on atmosphere and emotional depth, perhaps drawing inspiration from the themes of emily Brontë’s classic novel, Wuthering Heights, which the film adapts.
“House,” featuring John Cale, offered a first glimpse into this new sonic territory, blending electronic elements with a haunting and atmospheric quality. “Chains of Love” continues this exploration, promising a compelling and immersive listening experience.
