Chennai Corporation Commissioner Calls for Impounding Vehicles Parked Arbitrarily in the City
Chennai, India – In a bid to tackle the growing parking problem in Chennai, the Chennai Corporation Commissioner, J. Radhakrishnan, has recommended that vehicles parked arbitrarily in the city should be impounded.
Commissioner Radhakrishnan recently chaired a review meeting with service department officers to discuss road cutting works and traffic regulation in the areas under Chennai Corporation. During the meeting, he stressed the importance of timely completion of road cuts that occur during various public works, including underground sewer pipe installation, drinking water pipe installation, rainwater drains, electrical works, and Chennai Metro Rail Company projects.
According to the commissioner, road cutting should only be carried out once the necessary permissions from the Corporation have been obtained. He also emphasized the importance of obtaining a permit for cutting water pipe roads and conducting necessary road repairs. Moreover, he emphasized the need for clear communication with the public by displaying the dates of commencement and completion of road works on notice boards and through advertisements.
Commissioner Radhakrishnan also highlighted the need for proper safety arrangements during road cutting works to prevent traffic congestion. He called for swift action against vehicles that are parked arbitrarily in Chennai Corporation areas, emphasizing the need for confiscation. Additionally, he directed authorities to take steps to remove vehicles that have been unused for a long time, ensuring efficient transportation in the city.
The Commissioner also emphasized the completion of rainwater drainage works before the onset of the monsoon in the Metropolitan Chennai Corporation areas. He stressed the importance of coordination with relevant departments to address any missing rainwater drainage connections.
The Chennai Corporation Commissioner’s recommendation comes as the city grapples with a severe parking shortage.
