Chennai Metro Rail Extends Special Rs.5 Fare Offer Due to Weather Conditions

The Chennai Metro Rail Administration has announced an extension of their special Rs.5 one-way travel offer due to the anticipated storm and heavy rains. Originally scheduled only for December 3rd, the offer will now be valid until December 17th.

The decision to extend the special fare comes in light of the Southern Meteorological Center’s forecast of a storm named Mijam forming in the Bay of Bengal, expected to cross the coast on December 5th and bring heavy rains to the northern districts of Tamil Nadu from December 3rd to 5th. Additionally, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, and Kanchipuram districts are expected to experience heavy rainfall on December 3rd and 4th.

“In light of the anticipated heavy rains, the Chennai Metro Rail Administration has decided to extend the special Rs.5 fare offer to December 17th to accommodate passengers who may not be able to utilize the offer on December 3rd,” stated a spokesperson for the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation.

The special Rs.5 fare offer was initially announced to celebrate the Chennai Metro Rail Company Day, allowing passengers to purchase one-way travel tickets by paying Rs.5 through the Metro QR code. The offer was initially only applicable for tickets purchased on December 3rd, but has now been extended due to the weather conditions.

Passengers are encouraged to take advantage of this extended offer to travel on the Chennai Metro at a significantly reduced fare.
