Chiapas Train Collision: Interoceanic Rail & Trailer Accident

Mexico City. The Interoceanic Railway experienced a disruption when a trailer crossed its path near Pichucalco, Chiapas, but thankfully, no injuries to passengers or crew were reported, authorities said.

The incident occurred at 9:55 a.m. at a railway crossing close to the community of Cardona, in the municipality of Pichucalco, Chiapas. A trailer entered the tracks as a passenger train traveling the Coatzacoalcos-Pakal Ná route approached, resulting in a collision.

“Fortunately, none of the 148 passengers or crew members on board sustained any injuries, and there were no fatalities,” officials stated.

The Interoceanic railway company reported damage to the lead locomotive. A contingency plan was promptly activated, with another train and buses dispatched to transport passengers to their final destinations.
