“I’d be kidding you if I didn’t dream of that in the backyard when I was 8, 9 years old, to see that ball in the air,” Love said.
The 2016 Nazareth Academy graduate, hailing from Chicago and suburban Westchester, emphasized the importance of his community in his success. “I love where I come from. It took a village for me to get here,” Love stated. “It means a lot. I feel the love. My family feels the love, for all the support.”
Mills, a Lake Bluff native, achieved a personal milestone during the Super Bowl, recording his first-ever NFL sack. “Better late than never,” Mills remarked after the game. His journey to the championship was particularly inspiring, given that he hadn’t been able to walk a year prior due to an ACL tear sustained in the college football playoffs.
“A year ago I wasn’t even walking. So, it’s just a testament to our coaching staff and the training staff to get me here. I think six months ago this wouldn’t have seemed possible, but with their help, I mean I can’t believe it,” Mills explained.
Family and Community Celebrate
The victory resonated deeply with the families of the Chicago natives. Love’s parents and siblings traveled to Santa Clara, California, to witness the historic win firsthand. His father, DT Love, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from Chicago. “There’s a lot of support and love coming from Chicago, and we truly appreciate it,” he said.
The emotional scene on the field after the game included tears of joy from Love’s mother, Ivonne Love. “I’m an emotional person, so a lot of tears. Luckily, my children here behind me were like, ‘It’s ok, Mom,’” she shared. Even Love’s 2-year-old son, though largely oblivious during the game, seemed to sense the excitement, enjoying the confetti celebration on the field. The family plans to return to Chicago on Monday night, with Love eagerly anticipating time with his son and preparing for the arrival of their second child in March.
The Love family’s support extended to Mills as well, recognizing their shared alma mater, Notre Dame. “The first thing I screamed when he got his sack was ‘luck of the Irish,” said Devinne Love, Julian’s sister. Michael Love, Julian’s brother, proudly declared, “Chicago can play football.”

While tight end Eric Saubert, a native of Hoffman Estates, didn’t record a catch in the Super Bowl, his regular-season heroics were not forgotten. Saubert secured the game-winning catch in Seattle’s overtime victory against the Rams, demonstrating his value to the team.
