Chennai: Chief Minister M. K. Stalin inaugurated the Kalainan Women’s Rights Scheme during a ceremony held in Kanchipuram. The scheme aims to acknowledge and uplift the work of women at home, improve their standard of living, and promote self-respect within society.

The launch of the Artist Women’s Rights Scheme took place on the occasion of Anna’s birthday, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, in Kanchipuram, his birthplace. Under this initiative, 1.06 crore women across the state will receive a monthly allowance of Rs 1,000. CM Stalin personally handed over bank ATM cards to 13 women during an event held at Kanchipuram Pachaiyappan College grounds.

Addressing the attendees, Chief Minister Stalin emphasized that the implementation of women’s rights programs had faced challenges, with some critics accusing the government of breaking promises. He reiterated that they would have enacted the scheme immediately upon assuming power but were hindered by the state’s financial situation. However, with notable improvements in the economic landscape, they were able to fulfill this commitment.

The scheme has two fundamental objectives. Firstly, it seeks to acknowledge and appreciate the tireless efforts of women who work relentlessly without expecting any rewards for their contributions. Secondly, it aims to provide an annual financial support of Rs. 12,000 to uplift their standard of living, eradicate poverty, and enable them to live with dignity in society.

CM Stalin highlighted the undervalued role of women in society, stating that their essential work in building successful men and providing for the education and health of children often goes unrecognized. The Women’s Rights Scheme was conceived to uphold women’s rights and give due recognition to their invaluable contributions at home.

Citing the importance of women in his personal life, CM Stalin quoted, “If one has the kindness of a mother, the support of a wife, and the affection of a daughter, one does not need any other wealth than that.” He expressed gratitude for the influence of his compassionate mother, wife Durga, and self-confident daughter Sentamarai.

Former Chief Minister Karunanidhi’s legacy of introducing numerous women-centric initiatives was acknowledged during the ceremony. Chief Minister Stalin declared that implementing the scheme in his name was a fitting tribute. The Tamil Nadu government has introduced several programs, including Periyar, Anna, Karunanidhi Way, Dawn Journey for Girls, Innovative Women Scheme, Jewelry Loan Waiver, Self Help Group Revolving Fund, and Loans. The Women’s Rights Program stands as the pinnacle of these efforts, benefiting 1.06 crore girls with a monthly allowance of Rs. 1,000.

Further, Chief Minister Stalin revealed that a total of 1.45 crore families currently benefit from the Tamil Nadu government’s monthly pension schemes. This includes 39.14 lakh beneficiaries, comprising the elderly, unorganized laborers, and destitute women.

The implementation of the Kalainan Women’s Rights Scheme reflects the government’s commitment to empowering and recognizing the vital contributions of women. It aims to pave the way for their progress and improve their overall quality of life.
