Alappuzha: Police have identified a child who chanted anti-religious slogans at a Popular Front rally. It is learned that the child is a native of Thopumpady in Ernakulam district. Police arrived at the scene to find the child. The slogan chanted by the boy at the rally was echoed by others. The controversy was sparked by the release of video footage of the incident.

Ansar, who was arrested yesterday, carried the child on his shoulders. But it is said that Ansar did not know the child either. Ansar, a native of Erattupetta, told police that he shrugged his shoulders because he was curious about the protest.

Police have registered a case against those who brought the child to the Popular Front’s demonstration and the organizers. Based on this, Popular Front Alappuzha district president PA Navas, who was in charge of organizing the event, was arrested yesterday. PA Nawaz was taken into custody when he reached his house in Ambalapuzha.
