The children heard from the zookeeper about the ecology of sheep and how to shear their wool, and then, with the help of an adult, they cut the sheep’s wool by placing special large scissors on the sheep’s body.
Approximately 1.5 to 2 kg of wool can be harvested from each sheep, so the children were able to check out the softness of the wool and touch and feel the cool, shaved body of the sheep. I was there.
A 4th grade elementary school girl who experienced the experience said, “The hair that was cut was fluffy and felt good.It looked like it was going to be hot, so I think I was happy to have it cut.”
Zookeeper Yuri Yamaguchi said, “Tomorrow, we’ll be able to shear a lot of sheep, so we want the children to have a hands-on experience while learning.”
At the Suzaka City Zoo, the first 10 groups will be able to experience sheep shearing on the 6th.
