China: 1 million infected and 5,000 deaths per day

by time news

According to global estimates, China is dealing with over a million infections and 5,000 deaths per day. This is after the lifting of restrictions in the country following the civil protest

According to reports from China, hospitals throughout the country are flooded with corona patients and there are a large number of elderly people dying. The actual number of dead is currently unknown because officials have stopped publishing the corona data. Beijing reported about 4,000 new coronavirus cases each day last week and few deaths.

On Sunday, it was reported that China would stop publishing coronavirus numbers altogether, but British health data company Airfinity estimated that China was dealing with more than a million infections and 5,000 deaths a day. According to Reuters.

China is the last major economy in the world to “live with Corona” after three years of lockdown, closed borders and isolation for tourists and visitors.

The so-called Zero Corona approach hurt the economy and made citizens tired of restrictions and repeated tests. Resentment against the policy exploded into rare public protests against President Xi Jinping last November, leading to the repeal of the corona laws a few weeks later.

Closed borders remain the last major limitation. Since March 2020, anyone entering China has had to undergo quarantine at an authorities facility for three weeks at a time, but this has recently been reduced to five days.
