MADRID, 6 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp (CASC), China’s leading space manufacturer, is accelerating the development of a reusable heavy launch vehicle.

These are two new models, 4 and 5 meters in diameterwhose first flights are scheduled in 2025 and 2026, respectively, as revealed by chief designer Rong Yi, quoted by The Global Times.

For comparison, the partially reusable rocket Space X’s Falcon 9 has a diameter of 3.66 meters.

“China has continuously addressed the key technologies of reusable carrier rockets in recent years, and overall progress is currently very smooth,” said the chief designer of the new generation carrier rocket of the Chinese Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT) under the CASC.

“Compared with traditional rockets, reusable rockets involve four main categories of key technologies. First, ensuring accurate landing during rocket return; second, ensuring stable landing and recovery during rocket landing; Third, ensure the durability of the rocket to meet reusability requirements; Fourth, ensure prompt repair for local maintenance when necessary”, Rong explained.

CASC completed testing of vertical takeoff and vertical lift technology in August 2023, marking a key breakthrough in the development of reusable rockets, according to the same source.
