Arab and Muslim ministers called today in Beijing for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, a call to which the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, joined, at a time when representatives are trying to gather support to achieve an end to hostilities and allow the arrival of humanitarian aid to the territory.

Wang received his Palestinian counterpart, Riyad al Maliki, who arrived in the Chinese capital as part of a delegation of foreign ministers from Arab and Islamic countries, since the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Indonesia and Jordan were also present at the meeting.

The Chinese foreign minister reaffirmed the Asian giant’s position in the conflictwhich seeks “peace” and the implementation of “the ‘two-state’ solution.”

“China will always be on the side of just causes,” Wang said at the Diaoyutai formal venue at the beginning of the meeting.

In addition, he urged the international community to take “effective measures” so that the war “does not advance any further,” which is why he will “pull strings” around the world to continue “engaging in peace talks with multiple actors.”

Wang also said that the visit demonstrates the importance of “international mediation” by China, a “good friend and brother of Arab and Islamic countries”.

“We have always firmly supported the just cause of the Palestinian people to restore their legitimate rights and interests. China firmly stands on the side of fairness and justice in this conflict,” Wang was quoted as saying by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

The foreign minister said Beijing seeks to “reduce the intensity of the conflict, protect civilians, expand humanitarian aid, prevent humanitarian disasters and return to the ‘two-state solution’.”

For its part, the delegation highlighted “the large number of civilian victims in Gaza” and the consequent “humanitarian disaster”, and He expressed his desire to coordinate with China “to prevent the spread of the crisis, restart the peace negotiation processpromote the establishment of an independent Palestinian State on the basis of the ‘two-state solution’ and avoid falling into a vicious cycle of violence.”

“Arab and Islamic countries hope that China will play a more important role in ending the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and resolving the Palestinian-Israeli issue,” the delegation members said, according to the Chinese ministry.

Wang reiterated that for China “the top priority is to fully implement the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and achieve an immediate ceasefire.

“It is a matter of life and death for the people of Gaza. It is the current need of the people of Gaza, the desire of the vast majority of countries and the unanimous voice of all peace-loving peoples around the world,” said the Chinese diplomat, who also showed his opposition to “any forced displacement and relocation of Palestinian civilians.”

Meanwhile, Al Maliki thanked his counterpart for the invitation to a meeting that he considered “on behalf of the Arab and Islamic world for the crimes committed by Israel in Gaza.”

For Israel, this is the last war to end wars (…) “They want to eliminate all Palestinians,” added the Palestinian minister.

In turn, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Faisal bin Farhan, demanded “an immediate ceasefire” and considered China to be “shared responsible” for a possible de-escalation.

At the end of October, the Chinese minister called for a peaceful solution to the conflict between Palestine and Israel and expressed, in a telephone conversation with Al Maliki, his “deep solidarity” with the people of Gaza.
