While many of us are still debating whether 4G is faster or whether 3G uses less data, the Chinese, as almost always, are one step ahead and launch the first 6G satellite on a trial basis. of the world.

The takeoff occurred last week from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, in the Chinese province of Shanxi, with the idea of test the new spectrum bands that will be used for 6G data transmission in the future.

The Long March 6 (Chang Zheng 6) carrier rocket carried with it not only Star Era-12, an experimental satellite with sixth-generation telecommunications technology, but also 12 other conventional satellites.

The Star Era-12 or UESTC – referring to the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) – also carries an optical remote sensing system to monitor disasters. of crops and prevent floods and forest fires.

According to reports, 6G technology is expected to be about 100 times faster than 5G, the latter still in an early stage of its implementation.

Another difference will be in the bands used, since it is likely that with the sixth generation we will go from gigahertz (GHz) to terahertz (THz), precisely one of the aspects that this new Chinese satellite will test.

He The development of 6G is in a very early study phase, so it is not yet clear what use will be given to this technology or its commercial deployment.

In addition to China, media reports experiments with 6G in countries such as the United States and Finland, as well as in companies such as Samsung and Huawei.
