Taipei: US Speaker Nancy Pelosi came to Taiwan challenging China. China has threatened that the United States will pay a heavy price if Nancy Pelosi arrives in Taiwan. Last week, Chinese President Xi Jinping warned US President Joe Biden that it would be ‘playing with fire’ if he intervened in Taiwan. Pelosi came to Taiwan rejecting these threats and warnings. Just before Nancy Pelosi’s visit, a report has emerged that Chinese fighter jets flew across Taiwan’s border. After the Chinese provocation, American warships returned from Japan to Taiwan. In connection with Pelosi’s visit, massive security has been prepared at the Taipei airport.

The White House’s position was that Pelosi will not be stopped and that she has every right to visit Taiwan. After landing in Taiwan, Nancy Pelosi said in a statement that her visit was part of her Asian tour and was not against US foreign policy.
China claims Taiwan as its province with a population of two and a half million people. China has always taken the position that no one else has the right to interfere in Taiwan’s policies. All this time, China has opposed the American move to intervene in Taiwan. China’s response is that Pelosi’s move to bypass this and visit Taiwan is an encroachment on China’s independence. China has warned that the United States will be responsible for any consequences after Pelosi’s visit. China’s position on the Taiwan issue is supported by Russia. But Taiwan does not accept China’s position. At the same time, the American position is that the official relationship is with China and the unofficial relationship with Taiwan.
