Chinese President Xi Jinping, on his first European tour since COVID-19, arrived in Serbia, his second visit.
According to China’s Xinhua News Agency on the 8th, President Xi Jinping issued a written statement after arriving in Serbia on the 7th (local time). Serbia is a representative pro-China country in Europe, and President Xi Jinping visited it to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade.
In his statement, President Xi said, “China and Serbia have overcome the complex and rapidly changing situation and established a model for country-to-country relations. Since the two countries established a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2016, the relationship between the two countries has made rapid progress. “We achieved a historic achievement,” he said.
President Xi said, “The political trust between the two countries is as solid as a rock, and the joint construction of the high-quality ‘Belt and Road’ has achieved abundant results,” adding, “We have promoted people-to-people traffic through comprehensive reciprocal visa exemptions, the establishment of direct flights, and the successive signing of free trade agreements.” said.
“China and Serbia firmly support each other’s core interests and major concerns, jointly maintain international fairness and justice, and actively contribute to promoting world peace and development,” he said. “It is in line with fundamental and long-term interests,” he said.
He said, “At the starting point of a new history, China and Serbia will not lose their original intention, move forward together, and open a new phase of cooperation that is stronger, broader, and at a higher level,” and added, “We will use this visit as an opportunity to exchange opinions on bilateral relations and other issues of common interest.” “I look forward to exchanging, promoting development, and establishing a new blueprint for the development of the relationship between our two countries,” he said.
Serbia warmly welcomed President Xi Jinping’s visit. According to APF news agency, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and key government officials personally went to Belgrade Nikola Tesla International Airport to welcome President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan.
Additionally, after the private plane carrying President Xi entered Serbian airspace, the Serbian Air Force flew an escort flight for the private plane.
President Xi Jinping and President Vucic are scheduled to hold a summit meeting on the 8th.
In particular, President Xi visited Serbia on the 25th anniversary of the bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade by NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) forces during the 1999 Kosovo War.
Prior to his visit to Serbia, President Xi said in a local media contribution, “We must not forget that 25 years ago, NATO indiscriminately bombed the Chinese embassy in Yugoslavia,” and added, “The Chinese people cherish peace and will ensure that the tragedies of history are not repeated.” reported.
Meanwhile, China’s customs announced that it was lifting the risk warning against Serbia’s highly pathogenic avian influenza that it had issued in 2016.
