by time news

China’s launch of the CFETR fusion reactor, dubbed the “artificial sun,” is expected within the next 10 years, according to the South Morning China Post. The reactor is expected to generate electricity up to 200 MW. The reactor should be operational at full capacity in the mid-2030s.

However, the Chinese authorities have yet to approve the project. Now they are improving the mechanisms of the reaction of thermonuclear fusion.

In Russia, its own thermonuclear installation, the tokamak, should be operational. It was already launched in May. A tokamak is a toroidal chamber with magnetic coils. President of the Kurchatov Institute Mikhail Kovalchuk and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin took part in the launch ceremony.
