The 109-time Danish international suddenly collapsed on the pitch on June 12th during the European Championship opening match between Denmark and Finland in Copenhagen. Dramatic minutes followed his cardiac arrest. Eriksen had to be resuscitated, and quick medical intervention saved his life. How the 29-year-old’s career will continue is still open. Without Eriksen, the Danes later made it to the semi-finals.

Eriksen comes from the small Danish town of Middelfart, but moved to Odense when he was young. From there he moved to Ajax Amsterdam at the age of 16 – and this club is now once again associated with the Dane: The Italian sports paper “Gazzetta dello Sport” brought the Dutch club into play as a possible change target for the Dane. There he played from 2010 to 2013.

Because of his defibrillator, Eriksen is not allowed to play in the Italian league. That would be possible in the Netherlands. Accordingly, clubs in England and Denmark would also be possible. According to “BT” information, Eriksen stayed in a large house in Odense with his partner and their two children in the summer – only a few hundred meters from the club’s premises. “We are happy that he asked if he could train with us,” said Odense’s coach Michael Hemmingsen.
