Witnessing the love of Jesus Christ in countries where religious freedom is a guarantee is the dream of those who live in nations like North Korea, where the simple fact of owning a Bible is grounds for severe punishment, including torture and even death. of its owner.

But despite the enormous risks involved in owning a Bible in North Korea’s communist regime, Christians living in the country have risked their lives to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with their fellow humans.

Min-jae, a Christian currently living in South Korea, shared his testimony of faith. Converted in 2004 during a trip to China, where Christianity is also restricted but freedoms are greater than in the North Korean regime, he accepted the proposal to smuggle Bibles to his home country.

Risky plan

Bible smuggling is the only way to bring the Word of God to North Korea, as the country’s communist regime does not accept any type of version of the Scriptures on its territory.

This is why for decades missionaries have risked their lives to enter the country with hidden Bibles, using the border with China to do so. That’s what Min-jae did, when he secretly received an order for ten copies of the Word of God across a river one dark night.

“Now I believe in God, and in God everything is possible. I can do whatever He wants. Even though it seems difficult, maybe God will just do His job,” he thought at the time, according to the organization Voice of The Martyrs.

“I was scared and nervous. It was nice to receive, but when I opened the bags I started to wonder, ‘How can I distribute them right now?’ I started having doubts,’” he said.

Fortunately, God directed him to leave eight Bibles on the doorstep of a man he heard whistling a Christian hymn. Some time later, when trying to defect to China, Min ended up being captured and ended up in prison, where he met a young man who reported the presence of another man, also a Christian, who had been detained for possessing eight Bibles.

Min-jae understood that it was the same person he had chosen to leave the Bibles on his doorstep, but he did not reveal what happened for security reasons. Fortunately, he heard from the young man that 27 other people who had read the Word of God also gave their lives to Jesus Christ.

Seven months after his arrest, Min gained his freedom, and at the first opportunity he defected, this time to South Korea, where he lives to this day with the help of the Voice of The Martyrs. “I just want the North Korean people to hear and share the Gospel. That’s my only prayer,”
