Chungju City is seeking to spread garden culture by discovering private gardens. By discovering and registering private gardens, Chungju City is spreading private-led garden culture and creating a dignified garden city.
Private gardens are gardens created and operated by corporations, organizations, or individuals in accordance with the Arboretum and Garden Act, and can be registered by the provincial governor if they meet certain qualifications.
A total of three private gardens in Chungju City are registered: △Sotae-myeon Seoyu-suk Garden, △Eomjeong-myeon Rainforest Garden, and △Salmi-myeon Coffee Museum Garden, making it the largest number of private gardens in the province along with Jecheon City.
Sotae-myeon ‘Seo Yu-suk Garden’ is the first private garden in Chungcheongbuk-do. You can enjoy a neatly organized garden with echinacea, hydrangeas, and poplar trees on a large lawn, and chat at the cafe on the other hand.
Eomjeong-myeon’s ‘Rain Forest Garden’ covers a vast area of 4.3 ha, where you can enjoy a variety of trees and flowers, including a metasequoia forest path, and hand-made sculptures such as walking paths, stone towers, sotdaes, and ponds harmonize with nature to provide a wealth of attractions.
Salmi-myeon’s ‘Coffee Museum Garden’ is a private garden newly registered last month. You can overlook the scenery of Chungju Lake while walking along the pine tree walking path, and enjoy various cultural activities such as cafes, museums, glamping sites, and experience centers.
A city official said, “The private garden is a unique space that combines the unique creativity of the gardener with an outstanding view, and we expect it to be a resting place for visitors to take a break from their tiring daily life.” He added, “To spread garden culture. “As the role of private gardens is important, we will spare no effort in supporting so that more private gardens can be discovered and registered in the future.”
On the 15th, Chungju City conducted training for participants in the Hanpyeong Garden Project at the UNESCO International Martial Arts Center and announced the full-scale start of the Hanpyeong Garden Project in 2024.
On this day, about 150 people, including citizens participating in the Hanpyeong Garden development, citizen gardeners, and related government officials, attended the training and discussion to improve the quality of the Hanpyeong Garden development project, which is now in its second year.
Through ‘Introduction to the Palm Garden Project’ by Professor Kim Hyun of Dankook University, who was the general producer of the project to create 1,000 palm gardens in Suwon City, and ‘Basic Gardening Education’ by Kim Jong-geun, Director of the Korea Garden Association, participants’ insight into gardens was enhanced. As a side event, a video of the Yeonsu-dong village garden story of the Yeonsu-dong garden culture community ‘Yeonwon Flower Garden’ was screened and photos of garden culture activities were displayed to share experiences and expand consensus on the spread of garden culture centered on citizen participation.
