Rail circulation was re-established between Cascais and Carcavelos stations, on the Cascais Line, early last Tuesday. Trains were not running on the 7.6 km section for most of Monday, following a problem with the catenary, around 10 am.
Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), the manager of the Portuguese railway network, announced the restoration of circulation at 2:25 am, on the X social network, indicating that the problem in the “catenary power supply system” had been resolved at 1: 45. time”.
Earlier, at 8pm on Monday, IP announced that damage repair work would continue “throughout the night”.
Circulation was disrupted on the last 7.6 km of the Cascais Line from 10am on Monday, a situation which continued for the rest of the day. The cut in circulation was due to a problem with the catenary – the electric power distribution cable placed above the railway, which supplies energy to the trains.
The Cascais Line, which was the first to be electrified in Portugal, has had problems since March this year, when a fire caused by extension works on the Lisbon Metro forced the suspension of rail circulation and caused a reduction in the a service provided by the CP. , which mainly affects peak hours.
Since March, the Cascais Line has been subject to modernization works on the section between Oeiras and Cascais, including interventions on the catenary.
