Claims in the $100 million Verizon class-action settlement: How to check if you’re eligible for a payment

by time news

Verizon Wireless is in the process of settling a class action lawsuit that could see a payout of up to $100 million to customers who purchased a traditional postpaid wireless plan within the last seven years. The company faces allegations that it misleadingly advertised prices that did not include an administrative charge. This charge, according to a Verizon spokesperson, helps the company recover certain regulatory compliance and network-related costs.

The settlement is open to current or former US customers who purchased postpaid wireless or data services from Verizon and paid an administrative charge or an administrative and telco recovery charge between Jan. 1, 2016, and Nov. 8, 2023. Customers who purchased prepaid plans are not eligible.

If the settlement is approved and finalized, Verizon will pay $100 million into a settlement fund. Customers filing valid claims by the deadline could receive up to $100 each, depending on how long they were a Verizon subscriber and how many valid claims are filed.

Eligible class members can fill out and submit a claim form online on the settlement’s administrative site or download a paper form to mail in. The deadline to submit a claim is April 15, 2024.

While payments will be issued by check or electronic payment after the settlement is approved and finalized, a hearing is scheduled for March 22, 2024.
