/ The head of the administrative body of the Mosul Sports Club, Raed Al-Obaidi, said on Thursday that the partial collapse of the Mosul Stadium stand is part of the removal work taking place in the stadium.

Al-Obaidi told Agency, “Part of the runway, more than 3 meters long, collapsed during the excavation operations, causing minor damage to the excavator, but no casualties.”

Earlier today, Thursday, a local source told Agency, “Part of the runway of the local administration stadium in Ayman Mosul collapsed on the driver of a demolition machine, which led to him being seriously injured.”

A video clip was circulated on social media from inside the local administration stadium in the Bab Sinjar area, west of Mosul, showing dust filling the stadium, coinciding with the fall of part of the stadium’s runway during the demolition work.

On March 6, the Governor of Nineveh, Abdul Qadir al-Dakhil, announced the start of the demolition of the local administration stadium in preparation for its reconstruction within the stabilization funds and with the direct support of the Prime Minister.

The stadium will be rebuilt as part of a plan to support the sports and youth sector, according to Al-Dakheel.
