the end is one of the most outstanding presences of the imminent Cala Mijas, from August 31 to September 2 and which will feature Arcade Fire, The Strokes, Florence + The Machine, M83, Foals, Arca and Belle & Sebastian as the main headliners of the second edition of the event. The Navarrese says she feels more and more comfortable in the big formats, the festival-goers: “With the first album I played mostly in concert halls and at first it was hard for me to get used to the halls and festivals, but every time I’m more comfortable. People jump, they’re closer and you feel the connection more. Now I dance to me.”

Six years after his victory in Triumph operation and five since passing through Eurovision together with Alfred García, Amaia has once again shown that sometimes there is life after OT. The Navarre opted not to release her first album quickly and surrounded herself with more indie producers to shape a personal proposal, far from the most booming musical trends. Instead of expressways, she opted for back roads and little by little she has earned the respect of the scene. Her presence on the El Bosque Sonoro poster is one more example.

She, however, flee from watertight departments. “I like the path I’ve taken, but I think it’s less and less clear what is indie and what is mainstream. That of classifying music by style seems to me to be a thing of the past, now everything is mixed up”, he underlines.

On her second album, the Navarrese has opted for a sound “much more sophisticated than on the previous one”, something that was determined by the choice of the main producer: Alizzz, a collaborator of C.Tangana. The ten songs on the album are different from each other, with one great variety of styleswhich has determined the configuration of the tour’s setlist: “We have tried to make it dynamic because there are more electronic songs and then there is a quieter part with the piano.”

New album in sight

The artist assures that her vital moment has been reflected “naturally” in the lyrics of When I don’t know who I am, a title of her second album already explicit in itself. “This record was kind of conversation with myself and, without a doubt, it has helped me to know myself better and to gain experience”, explains Amaia, who is already beginning to envision her next record. “It is beginning to take shape, but I want to take it easy. What I do know is that it will be different from what I’ve released so far,” she says.

And it is that the Navarrese is in the middle of the composition process, a job that has also changed for her. «I have discovered that if I compose with the piano something very different comes out than if I do it with the guitar or directly using a base; I like to experiment and try new things”, says Amaia. At the moment, she combines the quiet task of composition with the massive concerts: After the one in Cala Mijas, on September 23, he will offer the end of tour recital at the Wizink Center from Madrid.
