DIG/ On the sidelines of the coronation ceremony of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the Gabonese and South Korean governments represented respectively by the Minister of the Environment, Prof. Lee White and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Lee Do-Hoon signed, on May 6, 2023 in London, a cooperation agreement to combat climate change in which the two countries undertake to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to the adverse effects of climate change and thus facilitate the transition to green economies and resilient to climate change.

This agreement for a period of five (5) years is part of the implementation of the Paris Agreement.

Within this framework, the bilateral agreement will establish a global and mutually beneficial partnership through several cooperation activities, namely:

A) science and technology cooperation centered on exchanges between climate change experts, researchers, academics and government officials, including providing capacity building training opportunities for Gabon;

B) cooperation based on the promotion of public and private projects and programs, leading to greenhouse gas mitigation results to achieve the nationally determined contributions of the two countries.

As a reminder, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change lays a solid foundation for encouraging international efforts to combat climate change.
