Sphere Media’s ‘By Bunny’ Set to Hop onto Canadian Screens with International Distribution Deal

A new 2D animated series, By Bunny, is poised to captivate young audiences across Canada and beyond, thanks to a multi-partner co-production led by Sphere Media (Riley Rocket, Red Ketchup). The series, greenlit for TVOkids, RADIO-CANADA, TFO, and Knowledge Kids, aims to blend literacy, humor, and zoology for children aged four to seven.

The show, consisting of 52 eleven-minute episodes, centers around a red sweater-wearing, floppy-eared bunny who transforms scientific facts into imaginative stories. According to a company release, By Bunny began production this month, with pre-production and scriptwriting initiated in September.

A Collaborative Production Spanning Three Continents

Sphere Animation is spearheading the production, collaborating with Telegaelic, an Irish film and TV studio, for voice recording and post-production. Animation and storyboarding will be handled by two Indian studios: Mesmor Studios and Anaganaga Pictures. This international partnership highlights the growing trend of global collaboration in children’s entertainment.

“Developing homegrown IP is no small feat—and By Bunny does it with heart, humor and curiosity,” stated a commissioning editor at TVOkids. The series represents a significant investment in Canadian creativity and a commitment to providing engaging, educational content for young viewers.

Global Expansion Planned Through Strategic Partnerships

The international rollout of By Bunny will be managed by ZDF Studios, focusing on distribution throughout Europe and integration into their portfolio of family-friendly brands. Bejuba! Entertainment will handle representation in the rest of the world, excluding Canada, India, and Ireland. This dual-pronged approach aims to maximize the series’ reach and impact on a global scale.

The synopsis reveals that By Bunny’s unique premise revolves around taking scientific facts and “morphing” them into engaging narratives, fostering a love of reading and writing in young children.

Prioritizing Education and Entertainment

“Kids’ shows shape the minds that will one day shape our world—and By Bunny takes this responsibility very seriously,” noted a senior executive overseeing Sphere Media’s Kids & Family division. “But what he doesn’t do is take himself too seriously: he puts the fun into facts.” The series aims to inspire curiosity and a desire for learning, positioning itself as both entertaining and educational.

Full delivery of By Bunny is anticipated by the end of 2027, promising a wealth of new content for young audiences eager to explore the world through the eyes of a curious, imaginative bunny.
