A wave of cancellations and postponements is impacting holiday events across western Wisconsin as dangerously cold temperatures descend upon the region. Several cherished community traditions have been altered to prioritize public safety, with organizers scrambling to find new dates or, in some cases, accepting outright cancellation.
Bloomer Parade Postponed, Offers Second Chance for Participants
The annual Bloomer Christmas parade, originally slated for Saturday at 6 p.m., has been postponed due to the anticipated extreme cold and wind chill. According to the Bloomer Chamber of Commerce, the parade will now take place on Saturday, Dec. 20, at 6 p.m. This postponement offers a welcome extension for those wishing to participate. “You have another week to get ready!” a chamber representative stated. Individuals with questions are encouraged to contact the chamber at 715-568-3339.The parade route will remain unchanged, beginning at the corner of 17th and Main Street, proceeding up Main Street to the intersection of Main and 9th Avenue.
Thorp Parade Canceled, No Reschedule Planned
Regrettably, not all holiday events can be rescheduled. The Thorp Christmas parade, previously scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m., has been canceled outright. WEAU confirmed with the Thorp Chamber of Commerce that there are no plans to find an alternate date for the beloved event.
Cameron’s “Christmas in the Village” Rescheduled
Further north, the Pioneer Village Museum in Cameron has postponed its “Christmas in the Village” event due to the hazardous weather conditions. Originally planned for Dec. 12-13, the event will now be held on Dec. 19 from 4-8 p.m. and dec. 20 from 2-6 p.m. The museum is located at 1866 13 1/2-14th Ave, Cameron, WI.
Marathon Canceled, Community Festivity Continues in Bloomer
In Bloomer, the NAMI Positive Vector marathon and half-marathon, scheduled for Dec. 13, has been canceled. However, the associated community celebration at the Lakely will proceed as planned.doors will open at 4 p.m., with the program commencing at 5 p.m. and culminating in a raffle drawing at 8 p.m.
