Mochrie revealed the diagnosis in a joint Instagram post with Hyprov (improv under hypnosis) and his costar, hypnotist Asad Mecci. “We regret to inform you that our upcoming shows will be postponed due to a medical situation involving Colin mochrie,” the message stated. “Colin has been diagnosed with a detached retina and will be undergoing emergency eye surgery today. His medical team is optimistic about his full recovery, but he needs time to rest and heal.”
A detached retina occurs when the retina-the light-sensitive layer of tissue in the back of the eye-pulls away from its supporting tissue. Prompt medical attention, often involving surgery, is crucial to prevent permanent vision loss.
The post continued, expressing Mochrie’s gratitude for the support. “Colin is incredibly grateful for your support and well wishes. He looks forward to being back on stage and sharing many more laughs with all of you in the near future. Thank you for your understanding.”
