“It’s a very good understanding,” reacted the president of the FAE, Sylvain Mallette, at a press briefing at the National Assembly. More than 43 changes were made to the employment contract. ”

The new collective agreement also provides for the disappearance of one step as of March 31, 2023, which will make it possible to reach the maximum step after 13 years of service instead of the current 14 years.

“It’s more profitable to become a teacher, downright”, welcomed the Minister of Education, Jean-François Roberge. He believes that this new employment contract will help alleviate the shortage of teachers.

“It promotes the way out of the crisis,” he said.

For her part, the President of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel, described the agreement as “historic”, since it changes the organization of work and allows teachers greater autonomy.

“We free up a lot of teachers’ time where they did, for example, supervise during recess. This time will be recovered so that the teachers can intervene with the students. ”

The FAE brings together 49,000 primary, secondary and vocational training teachers. It is an independent grouping of large power plants.
