Colombian exports have started 2024 with a good performance, driven by growth in several key sectors of the economy.

According to data revealed by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), The Agricultural, Food and Beverage sectors experienced a notable increase of 9.1% in their sales abroad during the month of January.

The DANE report indicates that the total exports of the country in January 2024 reached US$3,745.7 million, representing an increase of 1.3% compared to the same period of the previous year. This positive result is mainly attributed to the solid performance of the Agricultural, Food and Beverage sector.

The Fuels and Extractive Industries Products sector also had a prominent role in January exports, representing 52.3% of total FOB exports. Specifically, crude oil exports increased significantly, reaching 22.6% growth compared to January 2023.

Regarding the destinations of Colombian exports, the United States remained the main recipient in January 2024, with a share of 25.6% in the total exported value. They were followed by China, India, Panama, Mexico, Brazil and Ecuador.

The detailed analysis of exports by group reveals that agricultural exports, Food and Beverages amounted to US$803.3 million FOB, with a growth of 9.1% compared to the same month of the previous year. This increase was mainly due to the increase in exports of Bananas and fresh or dried fruits.

For its part, Manufacturing participated with 19.3% in the variation of January 2024, with sales of US$722.0 million FOBshowing a growth of 4.4% compared to January 2023. This growth was driven by exports of Machinery and Transport Equipment, as well as Chemical and related Products.
