Tragically, one of the hikers, a physician, resolute the woman had no pulse.

“this is a very common time of year to take mountain lion sightings and reports, and especially in Larimer County, where this is very good mountain lion habitat,” the spokesperson explained. “Trails in this area are in pretty remote land, so its wooded, it’s rocky, there’s elevation gains and dips.”

Mountain lion attacks are statistically rare, but not unheard of. Colorado’s last suspected fatal attack occurred in 1999, claiming the life of a 3-year-old child. Prior to that, in 1997, a 10-year-old boy was killed and dragged away by a lion while hiking with his family in Rocky Mountain national Park.
The incident echoes a similar tragedy last year in Northern California, where two brothers were attacked by a lion after being stalked. Sadly, one of the brothers succumbed to his injuries.
