toulouse’s Comédie de Toulouse Thrives as a Hub for French Comedy and Emerging Talent
The comédie de Toulouse, under the direction of Isabelle Jeulin, continues to solidify its position as a leading venue for both established and up-and-coming comedic performers, injecting much-needed humor into french society.
“People come to our shows, our customers come to me with the banana and promise to come back, and with friends because, they say, ‘we need them too much’,” Jeulin shared, highlighting the positive reception to the theater’s offerings.
The Comédie de toulouse deliberately cultivates a broad appeal, showcasing comedies, solo performances, and productions geared towards younger audiences, such as “Augustin the Pirate” and “Yali and Jaguar.” This strategy aims to entertain a wide demographic while simultaneously offering a vital dose of levity. According to Jeulin, the performances also offer audiences opportunities for growth, stating, “They actually learn to listen, they discover other worlds and shows which are adventures in another country, human adventures with other people, with animals…”
The theater’s New Year’s eve schedule exemplifies this commitment to variety, featuring performances by Éric Carrière – including “Les Décoiffeuses” with Isabelle Parsy and Sandra Cadeau, and “Very Speed Dating” with angélique Panchéri – alongside the Rom Charrette show and a flamenco concert by Kiko Ruiz and rafael Pradal.Long-running house shows like “Folle du Stade Toulousain,” “Crimes in Saint-Sernin,” “Toulouse… I love it!” and “Toulouse, I’m staying there!” will also be available for audiences to enjoy.
A Magnet for Established and Rising stars
the Comédie de Toulouse’s 300-seat venue has become a favored destination for performers, attracting both renowned comedians and emerging talents. Alex Vizorek recently chose the theater to test his new show, “Deux demi,” a testament to the space’s appeal. “the stage as it is indeed, its size, the room as it is set up means that they are happy to play here,” Jeulin explained. “Especially as it is indeed a crazy audience, generous, warm, participating. Everyone tells me that Toulouse is in the Top 3 cities where they love to come.”
The theater actively champions the next generation of comedic voices, providing a platform for artists like Grégory Vacher, the troupe behind “Dommages” – featuring Julie Villers, Céline Groussard, and Michel Frenna – Anne Cahen, Adele barbers, and Anne Boissard. further performances are scheduled with Noam Sinseau, Éric & Quentin, AZ, Samuel Bambi, and the Toulouse Burlesque Festival on March 7. The Comédie de Toulouse anticipates the return of the Lambert couple from March 28 to april 4, following triumphant November performances, to share their experiences of life in Dubai. The Knights of Fiel, the driving force behind the theater, will continue to operate from their base on rue saint-Germier.
