A solemn tribute to Muganwa Rwagasore: a key chapter in the history of Burundi.
Bujumbura, 14/10/2024 – In resonance with the colonial history of Burundithe year 1961 was at the dawn of the country’s independence. In January of that year, the Prime Minister of Congo, Lumumba, was assassinated. In Burundi, it was the same on October 13 for Muganwa Rwagasore. The United States, the Vatican, France and Belgium nourished the ambition to establish, both in Congo and in Burundi, neocolonial states, that is to say military dictatorships, allowing them to maintain their hold on these nations in the process of independence.
In the presence of the family of the illustrious deceased and all the high authorities of the State as well as the diplomatic and consular corps, Burundi, this Monday, gathered behind the presidential couple, HE Ndayubaha Angéline, First Lady of Burundi, and HE Ndayishimiye Evariste, Major General and President of Burundi, to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of The assassination of Prince Rwagasore. After a mass celebrated at the Regina Mundi Cathedral, a wreath of flowers was placed at the Mausoleum of the illustrious deceased, on Vugizo hill.
Since 1959, the United States, the Vatican, France and Belgium had made the decision to put an end to the Kingdom of Burundithis millennial African state, in order to replace it with a Republic, or a military dictatorship. In 1966, the Kingdom of Burundi became the Republic of Burundi.
