Glasgow 2026 Prioritizes Sustainability with BYD Partnership, New Deals Bolster Cricket & Netball
A wave of commercial agreements is reshaping the landscape of several major sporting events, with a focus on sustainability, youth development, and enhanced digital experiences.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow has taken a significant step towards its environmental goals by appointing BYD as its first Official Car Partner. The landmark deal, unveiled at Glasgow’s Riverside Museum alongside Commonwealth bronze medalist and Team Scotland hopeful Katie Shanahan, will see BYD provide 90 electric and hybrid vehicles to support Games operations. These vehicles will facilitate transportation for the Games Family, support crew, and personnel across the eight-mile competition corridor.
BYD’s commitment extends beyond the Games themselves, as the company also becomes an Official Supporter of Team Scotland, providing transport for team needs and the King’s Baton Relay within Scotland. “One of our biggest ambitions for Glasgow 2026 is to be the most environmentally sustainable Commonwealth Games,” stated Jade Gallagher, Chief Operating Officer of Glasgow 2026. “We can’t achieve that without a partner like BYD who have a global reputation for innovation in New Energy Vehicles.” The Games are actively promoting active travel, reducing the overall vehicle footprint, with BYD providing crucial support for essential transportation needs.
Cricket & Netball Secure Key Partnerships
In other sports business news, Northamptonshire County Cricket Club has extended its partnership with dbfb for another four years. The company will continue as the official player pathway and academy partner, demonstrating a long-term commitment to youth development within the club. The renewed agreement includes prominent branding on the academy playing shirt, sponsorship of the Academy Player of the Year award, signage at Wantage Road, and hospitality benefits throughout the 2026 season. “We have a really close partnership with dbfb,” said Daniel Vernon, Chief Operating Officer at Northamptonshire County Cricket Club, “and everyone is delighted for that to be continuing.”
The Netball Super League is also bolstering its commercial portfolio with a new partnership with law firm Taylor Emmet Solicitors for the 2026 Netball Super Cup. The Sheffield-based firm will be an official partner of the event, which returns to the Utilita Arena in Sheffield on February 21, 2026. The deal aligns with Taylor Emmet’s ‘Women’s Health and Wealth’ initiative, emphasizing its dedication to supporting women’s sport and female role models. According to a statement from England Netball and the Netball Super League, the partnership will create “another unmissable occasion that will unite, entertain and inspire women and girls.”
StreamAMG & Applicaster Team Up for Enhanced OTT Experience
Finally, global sports OTT provider StreamAMG has forged a strategic partnership with SaaS platform provider Applicaster to improve the digital viewing experience for sports fans. The collaboration will leverage Applicaster’s no-code app platform, Zapp, to enable StreamAMG’s clients to launch and scale applications across eight major TV platforms, accelerating expansion into the connected TV ecosystem. “Connected TV has become one of the most important ways fans enjoy live and premium sports,” explained Paul Hunt, Managing Director at StreamAMG. “By teaming up with Applicaster, we’re making it much easier for our customers to bring their OTT experiences to the big screen.” The partnership is already supporting clients like Leeds United in extending their reach to a wider audience.
These recent partnerships demonstrate a growing trend of strategic alliances within the sports industry, focused on sustainability, youth development, and delivering innovative experiences for fans.
