Tesla has reduced the prices of its Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in China, according to its website, after reducing the prices of Model Y, X, and S cars in the United States.
The website showed that the starting price of the renewed “3” model has dropped to 231,900 yuan ($32,030) from the previous 245,900 yuan ($33,964).
The Y model is now sold at a starting price of 249,900 yuan ($34,516), down from the previous price of 263,900 yuan ($36,450).
This comes after the company’s CEO, Elon Musk, announced on Saturday that he had postponed a planned visit to India, where he was scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, attributing this to commitments in his company Tesla, and said that he is seeking to set another date for the visit this year. .
On his account on the “X” website, Musk wrote: “Unfortunately, Tesla’s very heavy commitments require postponing the visit to India, but I am very looking forward to visiting it later this year.”
The visit to India was supposed to include announcing plans for Tesla to enter the Indian market, according to what Reuters reported earlier.
Reuters said that Musk was expected to announce in New Delhi an investment worth between $2 billion and $3 billion, mainly to build a factory, after the government announced a policy to reduce high customs duties on imported cars if companies invest locally.
Tesla’s recent reduction in China came after the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi unveiled, last month, an electric sports car that includes design touches derived from Porsche cars, but at a lower price than the Tesla “3”, which highlights the fierce competition. imposed by new entrants on Beijing’s already crowded electric vehicle market.
