Conference in Rabat on archives highlighting the Moroccan nature of the Sahara
Rabat – The Royal Institute for Research on the History of Morocco, part of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, organized, Friday evening in Rabat, a scientific conference given by the historian Jilali El Adnani on “the Green March : the Moroccanness of the Sahara through Moroccan and foreign archives and documents”.
The speaker, on this occasion, shed light on the importance of the archives which prove the Moroccan nature of Saraha and show the historical links uniting the Sahrawi tribes and the Sultans and Kings of Morocco through time.
It also provided researchers and diplomats with facts and mechanisms to help them understand the entire Sahara issue.
During this meeting, which took place in the presence of the director of the Royal Institute for Research on the History of Morocco, Mohammed Kenbib, and a host of academics and student researchers interested in history of Morocco, the speaker reviewed a set of archives and foreign documents presenting testimonies and historical correspondence from a set of foreign political actors who recognize the sovereignty of Morocco over its southern provinces.
The process of searching for documents and archives proving Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara took the historian approximately 20 years of work.
These are documents and letters which prove the Moroccan nature of the Sahara and defend the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, said the professor.
Jilali El Adnani is a writer and professor of History at the Mohammed V University of Rabat (Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences). He has several works to his credit, including “The Sahara put to the test of colonization: a new look at territorial questions” and “Religious anthropology and colonization: the dilemma of modernization”.
