Congress Releases Second List of Candidates for 2023 Karnataka Elections

The Congress Party has released the second list of candidates for the Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections which will be held next month. The list includes 42 members, including the regional party, Sarvodaya Karnataka Party. There will only be one phase of elections for the 224-member assembly on May 10, and the results will be counted on May 13. Congress has finalized 142 candidates, with the first list of 100 candidates announced earlier. The party’s Central Election Committee, chaired by Congress President Mallikarjuna Kharge, finalized the list of candidates. The Congress party is trying to regain power in Karnataka, which is the only state in the southern region where the BJP is in power.

New Delhi: The Congress Party has today (April 6) released the 2nd list of candidates for the Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections to be held next month (May). The regional party Sarvodaya Karnataka Party is also included in the 42-member list.

Elections to the 224-member Karnataka Legislative Assembly will be held in a single phase on May 10. The counting of votes will take place on May 13. Congress has finalized the list of 142 candidates for this. While the Congress party had already announced the first list of 100 candidates, the second list of 42 candidates was announced by the Central Election Committee of the Congress party on Thursday. In this list, the Congress party has allotted the Melukot constituency to Darshan Puttannaiah of the regional party Sarvodaya Karnataka Party.

Earlier, the party’s Central Election Committee meeting chaired by Congress President Mallikarjuna Kharge finalized the list of candidates. In this meeting, prominent leaders of the state including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, State Congress President DK Shivakumar, All India Congress Party state in-charge Randeep Surjwala participated.

It is to be noted that the Congress party is actively trying to regain power in Karnataka, the only state in the southern state where the BJP is in power.
