Ramon Madaula has taken a liking to historical figures. He is still living his adventure with a Buffalo Bill with a flare gun and waiting for the duel between Napoleon and his brother Joseph (The Buonapartes) which will be released on December 20 at the Akademia Theatre, the actor and playwright has imagined a unique comedy around the very noble Jaume I while summoning the spirit of the king whom they called “lo mal mamat” on the set of a historical series about him.

Playwright Madaula is a great observer who usually anchors his creations to realities he knows firsthand. He did it in his debut as a playwright in Our things, where he confronted a theater director and a critic; did it to Semi-detached drawing inspiration from an artist questioned by the family and did it a The Brugarols while remembering his Sabadell origins. Comedies all starring middle-aged men and their contradictions where humor and criticism are balanced.

conquerors is, however, different. It is a comedy shot to conquer the laughter of the spectators. A comedy with a ghost born of expectations. Of those that he himself has experienced when he shot a series. Expectations inhabited by the stereotypes of all the colleagues who join the set. There is the classic producer who wants blood and sex. There is the councilwoman who shouts (fantastic Tilda Espluga). There is a Ukrainian refugee who works as a cleaner (Mònica Glaenzel). There is a very confident director (Vanessa Segura). There is an assistant director (Moha Amazian), in this case a Moroccan who does his best to confront him with the king’s racism. There is an actor who is not at all sure how to play his role as a king (Roger Coma). There is a histrionic Xavier Bertran nailing the laughs in each of the four roles he plays… And there is the ghost of Jaume I, who talks to an ancient Catalan (Ramon Madaula).

Comedy to pass the time on a festive afternoon less hilarious than it claims to be and with a direction by Josep Maria Mestres that at times seems too restrained and with rough transitions that influence the rhythm. Functional realistic scenic space (Ignasi Camprodon) and a correct overall interpretation.
