Chilean Community Celebrates Culture with Carabineros Orchestra Performance

A vibrant citizen festival in Constitución, Chile, drew large crowds on a recent date for a captivating performance by the Orfeón de Carabineros de Chile, underscoring the importance of accessible cultural experiences.

The event, held in Plaza Arturo Prat de Constitución, was organized by the Municipality of Constitución’s Tourism Area as part of its summer programming. The goal was to create communal and recreational spaces for both residents and visitors, and by all accounts, it was a resounding success. From the early hours of the day, locals and tourists alike converged on the commune’s main public walk, demonstrating strong public support for such initiatives and a desire for quality entertainment in open-air settings.

The concert itself was described as a deeply emotional musical journey, featuring beloved classics of Latin American and Hispanic popular music. The Orfeón de Carabineros paid tribute to iconic artists including Marco Antonio Solís, Juan Gabriel, Luis Miguel, Miguel Bosé, Isabel Pantoja, Nino Bravo, and José José, prompting keen singalongs, applause, and emotional responses from the audience.

A number of prominent figures attended the event, including Mayor Carlos Valenzuela Gajardo, alongside councilors Franco Aravena, Richard Rodríguez, Carlos Segovia, Francisco Candia, Carlos Zúñiga, and Michael García. Also present were Luis Valero Campos, the executive director of the Municipal Cultural Corporation, as well as regional and communal authorities such as Colonel Evelyn Oses Vásquez, subprefect of Prefecture N°14 of Talca; Major Marco Pérez Zumelzu, commissioner of the Second Police Station of Carabineros de Constitución; the subprefect of the PDI, Patricio Contreras; and Commissioner Carlos Garrido.

Following the performance, Mayor Valenzuela Gajardo expressed his profound appreciation for the public’s enthusiastic response and the lively atmosphere in the square. “This is exactly what we want for our community,” he stated, “spaces full of life, families, of older adults, of young people, enjoying culture and music together. To see the square filling up, people singing, excited, participating… that’s how I like Conti – active, united, and enjoying her city.”

Cristian González Rosales, the non-commissioned officer and director of the Orfeón, shared his excitement over the warm reception. “We leave very happy and grateful,” he remarked. “The response from the people was wonderful, they sang, they applauded, they were excited with us. For a musician, there is no better reward than seeing a full square enjoying what one does. Constitution received us with an open heart.”
