The confectioners’ truce did not calm their anger. Two and a half weeks after the adoption – with pain – of the Immigration law, the left-wing parties persist in their fight which they intend to wage before the Constitutional Council as well as in the streets. Two events are already planned for January 14 and 21. “We are in the final round: this is where everything will be decided,” assures Andy Kerbrat, LFI deputy and leader on the bill.

“There is always something to play for when it comes to defending our values. For us, the law is socially and morally unacceptable,” adds the spokesperson for the socialist deputies, Arthur Delaporte. The vote on the text in the Assembly caused an open crisis within the presidential majority while the National Rally was pleased to see the principle of “national preference” which it has always defended enshrined.
