Worker Dies in Bulgaria After Retaining Wall Collapse During Excavation
A tragic incident in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, resulted in the death of a 52-year-old construction worker after a retaining wall and earth mass collapsed during excavation work on Thursday. The collapse prompted an immediate investigation into safety protocols at the construction site.
According to reports from Focus, the incident occurred around 12:00 PM local time at a construction site located on Kenali Street. Initial information suggests a sudden landslide buried the worker, despite the swift efforts of his colleagues to extract him.
Emergency services transported the victim to the hospital in critical condition,but he succumbed to his injuries while en route in the ambulance. “Despite the best efforts of the medical team, the worker’s injuries proved fatal,” a senior official stated.
The incident is not isolated,as authorities are also investigating a separate accident on the Gabrovo – Sevlievo road where one person died and two others were injured in a collision involving three cars.
Authorities have launched a full investigation into the Stara Zagora collapse. Employees of the Labor Inspection and the police are working to determine the cause of the collapse and whether all required labor safety norms were followed during the construction and installation works. The investigation will focus on potential negligence and adherence to safety regulations.
